Most applications pacs and User's Libraries should be scanned at 300 dpi B&W (1 bit). Most Owner's Handbooks should be scanned at 300 dpi 1 bit B&W or 200 dpi 4 bit gray scale. The latter gives similar text quality to 300 dpi B&W while also keeping complex color usage readable. Please contact me for more details.
The scans will be provided in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF/Acrobat) files. Acrobat readers for a large number of platforms may be freely downloaded from Adobe. Acrobat files are highly compressed and store an entire manual in a single file. PDFs may be viewed on screen or printed. You don't need to be able to produce PDF files to volunteer. Tiffs work fine and Windows BMPs have even been sent successfully.
All documents remain copyright HP, PPC, EduCALC or Synthetix and/or Synthetix authors. Each of these copyright holders has given permission for their documents to be scanned and distributed on these CDs. Friden has been out of business for some time and, so far, no one I have been able to contact has believed that their copyrights are still in force or that anyone would mind their being used here. This is subject to change at any time.
